This is a subject not often talked about but great leaders are often those with equally great vision.
As a current example we could look at President Trump who overcame significant difficulties to become President based on a clearly defined vision for his country. Similar things can be said of President Macron of France and Xi Jinping of China.
While we may not always agree with such visions the importance of them can not be understated.
Business leaders must also not only have a clear vision of where they want to be but must articulate it effectively and bring their team with them.
The majority of business owners and leaders, in our experience, rarely have a true vision of their future but rather something akin to a twelve month budget. This is not vision!
As an example of a true visionary we only need to look to our own history and John Bradfield who was responsible for the Sydney Harbour Bridge, its connecting underground railway as well as The Story Bridge in Brisbane. He understood the future transport needs of Sydney.
Not content with this Bradfield also proposed the diversion of surplus water inland (in Queensland) for both storage and the generation of power. He also recognised that this in the future could avert damage to the coral reefs from chemicals flowing into the sea! These ideas were discarded yet are now being looked at again.
These examples are those, in our view, of a true visionary. This type of thinking and vision is what is needed by business owners and leaders.
Look ahead, analyse future potentials for your business and create the vision and the strategy to get there.
